Culture-washing & HR for PR Sake

Season 7 / Episode 3
Make it Thrive: The Company Culture Podcast

In this episode I’m joined by Kelly Jackson, Chief People Officer at Luno. For this water cooler conversation we get deep on the companies who too often use their culture for PR, and use social injustice as a chance to promote their brand.

In this episode we cover;

  • Big brands fails from the past year
  • PR campaigns that have a HR twist
  • Why we need more sharing in the realm of company culture
  • The fine balance between support and corporate success

Quotes from Kelly;

  • “We need to get comfortable with the messy middle of culture.”
  • “Companies present what they want people to see.”

Our guest;

With over 13 years’ experience within the People space, across a number of industries including Technology and Financial Services, Kelly is currently Chief People Officer at Luno, a leading crypto currency business whose mission is to upgrade the world to a better financial system, by making it easy for consumers to buy, save and manage their crypto in one place. Prior to this, Kelly was Chief People Officer at WorldFirst where she helped to scale the fast growth FinTech business building a people first culture before its acquisition by Ant Financial (part of the Alibaba group) in 2019.

As a Psychology graduate from University College London, Kelly has always had a curiosity for what drives behaviour and how this applies in our workplaces. She is driven by creating environments in which people can feel a true sense of belonging and therefore thrive, and is passionate about making the world of work work better.
