My Money Story: From Climbing the Ladder to Changing the Game

For a long time, I did what we’re all told to do—work hard, climb the career ladder, and assume money would take care of itself. It didn’t. Like so many women, I realised too late that financial education isn’t built into our careers, even though money shapes every decision we make. In this session, I’ll share my own money story—what I got wrong, what I learned, and why I started a financial education company to help others. We’ll also talk about the real gender money gaps, what it’s like fundraising as a female founder, and why the workplace is the best place to fix this. Expect stats, stories, and real actions we can take—because knowing your numbers is power, and it’s never too late to start.

Carla Hoppe is a leading voice in financial education and regularly speaks at conferences and industry events. After 15 years in law and accounting, she left a partner-tracked career at the Big 4 to found Wealthbrite. Wealthbrite is an award-winning company on a mission to create a generation of financially savvy lawyers, working with law firms to mitigate risk of financial misconduct through independent financial training. Carla is also an associate member of the Centre for Personal Financial Wellbeing at Aston University where she contributes to academic research on financial literacy and financial behaviours in the UK.
